

What is Voice Dialogue?
Voice Dialogue is a therapeutic technique developed by Hal and Sidra Stone that focuses on exploring and integrating different aspects or "selves" within a person. It is based on the idea that individuals have various inner voices or parts, each with its own set of beliefs, feelings, and behaviors. These voices are often unconscious and can sometimes conflict with one another.
The goal of Voice Dialogue is to bring awareness to these different parts, allowing individuals to understand and harmonize them to achieve greater self-awareness, balance, and personal growth.


How it works?

Identifying the "selves": In Voice Dialogue, the therapist helps the individual identify and connect with various parts of themselves. These can be archetypal parts like the inner critic, the inner child, or the caregiver, as well as more unique parts based on the person's life experience.

Dialogue between parts: The process involves having the person communicate with these different "selves" by entering into a dialogue with them. The therapist facilitates this conversation, helping the person express the thoughts, emotions, and desires of each part.

Owning back and integrating: Some of these inner selves may be suppressed or repressed due to past experiences. Voice Dialogue encourages individuals to own back parts of themselves that have been repressed and to give those parts the space to be fully expressed. Over time, the goal is to integrate these parts into the person's conscious self, leading to greater wholeness and authenticity.

The Aware Ego Process: This is the ultimate aim of Voice Dialogue: the development of an "Aware Ego," which is not dominated by any one voice but instead is capable of recognizing and balancing the different inner selves. The Aware Ego is seen as a neutral observer that can choose the most appropriate response depending on the situation.
